LTC Jim Morehouse

Tucson, AZ

Background

Raised in the Finger Lakes area of New York State, Jim was involved in hunting and bird dogs from an early age. After finishing uni, he joined the US Army in 1967. He served until 1989, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. After his retirement, Jim and his missus moved to Arizona where they started Arizona Quail Hunts in 1992. As well as guiding quail hunts with top-notch German Shorthaired Pointers, Jim also competed successfully in field trials.

Jim isn't just keen on upland bird hunting, but he's also hunted big game across six continents, bagging over 100 different species.

Why I Use SportDOG Brand

The people are what make SportDOG the NUMBER ONE collar company. Everyone who works there is either a keen hunter, sports person and/or dog trainer. They know what's needed to train a dog successfully, and they channel that knowledge and enthusiasm into designing and producing top-notch products that WORK.

Favourite Products

I reckon the SportDOG TEK Series (1.0 and 2.0) are the easiest, most reliable, and rugged training tool ever designed. They work a treat in all conditions, including dodgy weather, steep terrain, stinking hot temperatures, and thick scrub. If you let a dog go without a TEK series collar, you're risking losing your top hunting mate and stuffing up your hunt.

Training Pointing Dogs with Birds - Part 1

When SportDOG® asked me to write training articles on some of the aspects of training pointing dogs to handle birds, it seemed like a pretty easy task. As a full-time trainer and quail guide in Arizona, pointing dogs and birds are my passion. However, as I started to write about...
