5 Reasons to Own a Hunting Dog
Posted by The SportDOG StaffIf you've already got a hunting dog, you know there's a stack of reasons to have one. If you're still tossing up the idea, we've put together our TOP 5 REASONS why you should just go for it and bring that pup home.
Health – Ever heard the saying “if your dog's not fit, neither are you?” Research indicates that dog owners are generally in better nick physically and are less prone to a heap of health issues like high blood pressure and diabetes. This is especially true for a hunting dog. They'll not only have you up and about for walks and a bit of play, but you'll also stay active with training, hunting, and keeping them busy to burn off all that bird-chasing energy in the off-season.
Challenge – Training and maintaining a top-notch hunting dog is a challenge you'll be stoked to conquer. Starting out with your own dog can be a bit daunting. You've seen mates out with their dogs, and it's ripper, but can you really pull it off by yourself? Yeah. Yeah, you can. You might not reckon it now, but the first time you take your dog out for a hunt and see how far you've both come…well, you'll never forget that feeling.
Community – If you've got a hunting dog, you know there's no such thing as a stranger in this community. Hunters are mad about their dogs. We love having a yarn about them. We love swapping stories and advice. Have a hunting dog and you're never far from the answers to all your questions. There's heaps of breed or game specific clubs out there and thousands of online forums and communities.
Bragging rights – Hunting dogs are the prezzies that just keep on giving. Not only will you feel a massive sense of pride just being out with you and your dog in the bush, but you’ll love getting to tell your mates about the latest ripper achievement.
Hunting – Fair dinkum. It just doesn't get any better than heading out to the bush, field, or hide with your mate by your side.
